A United States District Judge has ruled that the Chicago Police Department can continue its lawsuit against Jussie Smollett, who falsely claimed he was the victim of a hate crime earlier this year, sparking a massive investigation by the department.

According to the Washington Examiner, the Chicago Police Department spent nearly 1,900 hours investigating Smollett’s claims at an estimated cost of $130,000 in overtime pay.

The department is now seeking to recover those costs, now that it has been established that the 37-year-old actor fabricated the story of an assault by two individuals.

Smollett can still face criminal charges.
