Oklahoma Officer Helps Mentally Ill Woman Off Billboard Over Freeway

An officer with the Tulsa Police Department is credited with possibly saving the life of a mentally ill woman who was perched atop a billboard over a downtown freeway during rush-hour traffic late last week.

An officer with the Tulsa Police Department is credited with possibly saving the life of a mentally ill woman who was perched atop a billboard over a downtown freeway during rush-hour traffic late last week.

According to News On 6, the unidentified woman was waving a metal pipe and refusing to talk to the firefighters or police officers already on the scene when Officer Alisa Parrott arrived.

Officer Parrott climbed up on the structure and said calmly, "So what brought you up here today? What's going on?"

The woman then started to cry, and Parrott asked to hold her hand and say a prayer.

Shortly thereafter, Parrott said, "I want to give you a hug, so get up so I can give you a hug."

Parrott and other officers were then able to get the woman to safety.
