A man convicted of shooting a K-9 with the Canton (OH) Police Department has been sentenced to 45 years in prison.
According to ABC News, the man—identified as 23-year-old Kelontre Barefield—shot and killed K-9 Jethro in January as the dog and his handler responded to a burglary call at a grocery store.
The death of the 3-year-old German shepherd devastated Officer Ryan Davis, who had been Jethro's partner since he was an 8-week-old puppy.
