Some officers with the Texas Department of Public Safety may have to slim down if they wish to keep their jobs with the agency.

According to CBS News, the union representing DPS said the maximum waistline measurement for men is 40 inches and for women is 35 inches. DPS troopers who don’t meet the new standards for belly size may face termination, according to the DPSOA..

The union has filed a lawsuit against the agency in Travis County District Court and asked the Court to put the policy on hold until its legality can be determined.

Union President Richard Jankovsky said, "Not only is this policy demeaning, it is damaging to our troopers and to our citizens."
