Seattle Police Seek to Bolster Recruitment and Retention with $1.6M Plan

Incentives to keep officers from leaving will include striking unsubstantiated complaints from personnel records in a "clear my card" program.

Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan on Tuesday unveiled a $1.6 million plan to bolster Seattle’s recruitment and retention of police officers. The plan is intended to address a widening gap between departures and new hires.

According to the Seattle Times, the new strategies to attract more officers will include recruiting laterals from other agencies.

Incentives to keep officers from leaving will include striking unsubstantiated complaints from personnel records in a "clear my card" program.

The department will reportedly train some officers as "recruitment ambassadors."
