A deputy with the Tehama County (CA) Sheriff's Department fatally shot a suspect in an interview room after the man attempted to remove another deputy's gun from the holster Friday night, officials say.

According to CBS News, the man—identified as 32-year-old Alberto Wayne Martinez—was being interviewed as part of a child molestation investigation.

Following the interview, the deputies attempted to arrest Martinez and a struggle ensued, authorities say. It was then that the sheriff's department says the subject attempted to grab one of the deputy's guns, and another deputy fired a single shot, striking the man in the upper torso.

Martinez was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The California Highway Patrol Officer Involved Shooting team has taken over the investigation into the shooting.
