Officers with the Cut Bank (MT) Police Department will soon host the fifth annual "Kids Day in the Park" event, using the occasion to emphasize school safety and give free backpacks filled with school supplies to students in need.

According to the Cut Bank Pioneer Press, the event will take place on Saturday, Aug. 24.

"Everyone in the community is welcome," said Assistant Chief of Police Josh Simonds. "We are reaching out to kindergartners through fifth graders for the supplies and backpacks we are handing out, but if there are some older kids that need some help getting supplies, we can help them out too."

The safety tips presentations will be provided by School Resource Officer Austin DeRoche.
