An officer with the Prince George County Police Department suffered minor injuries in a two-car crash on Wednesday night.

According to NBC News, an officer was responding to a call for service with his lights activated on a local road when he sought to pass a vehicle.

The female driver initially thought that the flashing lights behind her meant that she was being pulled over for a traffic stop, but as the officer proceeded past, she re-entered the driving lane and struck the officer's patrol vehicle.

The officer was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated and released.

The driver of the other vehicle has been charged with failure to yield for an emergency vehicle.
