An officer with the Birmingham (AL) Police Department was hospitalized early Sunday morning after shots rang out at a traffic stop.
According to AL.com, the officer called dispatch to indicate the initiation of the vehicle stop, and soon thereafter made a radio call of shots fired. He didn't finish his transmission to the dispatcher and a search was immediately begun to locate the officer.
An officer with the Tarrant Police Department located the officer some distance from the bullet-riddled squad car and called in the location.
The officer was transported to a nearby hospital where it was discovered that he had not been struck by gunfire. He remains at the hospital for observation.
