Barricaded Gunman Dies at Michigan Elderly Home

A barricaded gunman who opened fire on police was shot and killed early Wednesday at an apartment complex housing elderly individuals. It is currently unclear whether the man was shot by police or died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A barricaded gunman who opened fire on police was shot and killed early Wednesday at an apartment complex housing elderly individuals. It is currently unclear whether the man, a resident there, was shot by police or died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"Our goal in a situation like this is the safety of everyone involved," said Ferndale Police Chief Vincent Palazzolo. "We had tactical, investigative, detective and SWAT officers at the scene, a really skilled team, and we worked hard for a peaceful resolution."

According to the Detroit Free Press, the man—whose identity has not yet been released—may have been under the influence of narcotics.
