The Little Rock Police Department has fired Officer Charles Starks, who was involved in the fatal shooting of a suspect—identified as Bradley Blackshire—who was driving a stolen vehicle toward him.

According to Arkansas Online, Little Rock Police Chief Keith Humphrey wrote in a termination letter that Starks was fired because he violated a general order which states an officer will not "voluntarily place themselves in a position in front of an oncoming vehicle where deadly force is the probable outcome. When confronted by an oncoming vehicle, officers will move out of its path, if possible, rather than fire at the vehicle."

The Little Rock Fraternal Order of Police said in a statement that it "strongly disagrees" with the decision to fire Starks.

Starks is expected to appeal his termination from the department.
