Suspected Cop-Killer Shot, Killed in Washington State

The man suspected of shooting and killing Deputy Sheriff Justin DeRosier of the Cowlitz County (WA) Sheriff's Office was shot in a confrontation with members of the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office and the Kalama Police Department on Sunday.

The man suspected of shooting and killing Deputy Sheriff Justin DeRosier of the Cowlitz County (WA) Sheriff's Office was fatally shot in a confrontation with members of the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office and the Kalama Police Department on Sunday.

According to the Seattle Times, the shooting on Sunday night ended a nearly 24-hour manhunt for the suspect—whose name has not yet been released—thought to be the man who murdered Deputy DeRosier on Saturday.

The fatal shooting of Deputy DeRosier is believed to be the first in-line-of-duty death in the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office’s history.

Deputy DeRosier had served with the Cowlitz County Sheriff's Office for three years and had previously served with the Whitman County Sheriff's Office for three years. He is survived by his wife and 5-month-old daughter.
