An officer with the Alpharetta (GA) Department of Public Safety was reportedly dragged by a suspected DUI driver earlier this month. The department released dash-cam video on Wednesday.

The agency said on Facebook, "In the early evening on April 5th, one of our officers made a traffic stop on a vehicle he observed driving recklessly on Old Milton Pkwy. During the discussion with the driver, 24-year-old Dennis Aguirre of Alpharetta, our officer suspected there were illegal drugs in the car and that the driver may be impaired."

The offender took off with the officer half inside the open driver-side door, dragging the officer for several yards before coming to a stop. The officer's arm was reportedly pinned inside the car by the offender.

Aguirre exited the vehicle and began to struggle with the officer, who eventually took him to the ground and began to effect an arrest. Other officers arrived on the scene and assisted in taking Aguirre into custody.

"Both our officer and Mr. Aguirre had minor cuts and scratches from the incident," the agency said. "Mr. Aguirre was taken to North Fulton Regional Hospital for medical clearance before being put in jail for several charges including, Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Trafficking Illegal Narcotics, Possession of Illegal Narcotics with Intent to Distribute, DUI, Reckless Driving, and other traffic charges."
