A Judge on Thursday dismissed a lawsuit filed by suspended Broward County, FL, Sheriff Scott Israel, finding that Republican Governor Ron DeSantis acted within appropriate authority when he removed the Israel from command of that agency.

According to the Sun Sentinel, Broward Circuit Judge David Haimes said DeSantis was legally justified when he replaced Israel shortly after taking office in January with acting Sheriff Gregory Tony.

Israel came under criticism after the February 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland that left 17 students and faculty dead.

Israel's attorney said that an appeal to a higher court remains a possibility.
