DEA, Charlotte Police Take Down Mexican Cartel Drug Traffickers

For roughly a year, investigators with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg (NC) Police Department partnered with the DEA, State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office in an effort to stop the distribution of illegal narcotics by the Jalisco Nueva Generacion drug cartel.

Police in North Carolina have arrested 18 people—most of them in Charlotte—and seized 40 pounds of heroin, 20 pounds of methamphetamine, and 15 pounds of cocaine.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) posted on its Facebook page that the total street value of the seizure is $3.5 million.

For roughly a year, investigators with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg (NC) Police Department partnered with the DEA, State Bureau of Investigation (SBI), and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office in an effort to stop the distribution of illegal narcotics by the Jalisco Nueva Generacion drug cartel.

"The CMPD’s involvement with the DEA Task Force underscores our commitment to combatting the opioid crisis," the agency said on Facebook.
