The city of Chicago wants Jussie Smollett to pay $130,000 to help cover the police department's costs of conducting an investigation into allegations he'd made that he was the victim of a homophobic and racist hate crime attack.

Until Tuesday, Smollett had faced 16 felony counts for making false statements to responding officers and investigators, but those charges were suddenly dropped, infuriating the chief of police, the mayor, and rank-and-file officers.

According to NBC News, Mayor Rahm Emanuel said Smollett should cover the costs of the police department's investigation into his claimed attack.

Lawyers for Smollett responded by saying, "Jussie has paid enough."
