Fortunately, Officer Gregory Vatrano was wearing a ceramic plate in his body armor, and the knife failed to penetrate that protective device.

According to MassLive.com, acting Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood told reporters that Officer Vatrano suffered a broken hand and cuts and bruises in the struggle. He will be out of work for several weeks until the hand injury heals.

The suspect—identified as Ruben Barrero—is facing attempted murder, arson, and multiple assault charges.
