Virginia Police Investigating Death of Off-Duty Officer as Murder-Suicide

Officer Bailey Smith had served with the Big Stone Gap Police Department, which is flying its flag at half-staff in the wake of his death.

Virginia State Police are investigating the death of 21-year-old Bailey Smith and his cousin—26-year-old Emeri Connery—as a possible murder-suicide.

According to WVLT-TV, Investigators found their bodies inside a 2015 GMC pickup truck in the median of a highway in Lee County.

Smith had served with the Big Stone Gap Police Department, which is flying its flag at half-staff in the wake of his death.

Investigators have not disclosed who fired the fatal shots.
