Boston Officer Shot Last Month Released from Hospital, Returns Home

According to the Boston Globe, 29-year-old Officer Mark Whalen was shot during an exchange of gunfire with a suspect—identified as 36-year-old Kasim Kahrim—in the early hours of February 22, 2019.

An officer with the Boston Police Department who was shot last month has been released from the hospital and has returned to his home.

According to the Boston Globe, 29-year-old Officer Mark Whalen was shot during an exchange of gunfire with a suspect—identified as 36-year-old Kasim Kahrim—in the early hours of February 22, 2019.

Kahrim reportedly fled the scene but later crashed his vehicle. Kahrim died from injuries suffered during the gunfight.

The department said of Officer Whalen on Facebook, "Thankfully, his condition continues to improve every day. In the days following the shooting, Officer Whalen and his family have been incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love and support received, not only from his closest friends and fellow officers, but also from concerned citizens, community members and strangers from all over the country wishing Mark a full and speedy recovery."

A department spokesman said that it remains unclear when Whalen will return to duty.
