The Fremont (CA) Police Department recently released video of an incident in February showing how an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with a thermal imaging camera helped to locate a child missing from a local school for the deaf.

The UAV operator helped lead officers on foot to the child's location even as the child's friends also assisted in the search.

The distraught teen was located and brought to emergency medical responders who were standing by.

According to Government Fleet, Fremont Police Lieutenant said, "We have been training and expanding our program to be prepared for this exact scenario. This technology allowed us to expedite a search, which normally could have taken several hours and a lot of resources. To be able to locate a young man who needed help and get him to the resources he needed, is a big success for our UAV team and our community."
