A Boston police officer shot in the city’s Roxbury neighborhood overnight during a traffic is expected to make a full recovery.

The incident happened at about 2:21 a.m. when two officers attempted to make a traffic stop, Boston police Commissioner William Gross told WCVB.

“The officers, who were in uniform, were fired upon and there was an exchange of gunfire that resulted in that officer being shot several times," Gross said.

Gross said the officer was shot several times, including in the torso.
