The defense attorney for Gustavo Perez Arriaga—who is accused of killing Corporal Ronil Singh of the Newman (CA) Police Department—wants the mental evaluation he requested for his client to remain sealed.

Attorney Stephen Foley initially argued that his client might not be fit to stand trial, but has subsequently changed his mind and now believes Mendoza is mentally fit to stand trial.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Police think Perez Arriaga was driving drunk when Singh stopped him in the early morning hours on the day after Christmas.

Singh's was the first death in the line of duty for the Newman Police Department.
