Ohio Departments Gather to Raise $29K in Charity Chili Cook-Off

The event has evolved over time, now providing assistance to other injured officers as well as funding the purchase of equipment such as body armor and first aid kits containing tourniquets and other emergency items.

Law enforcement officers from 25 agencies in Ohio gathered with hungry civilians for the ninth annual Lorain County Blue Foundation Pete Soto Chili Cook-Off on Saturday.

The event was originally named for and benefited Soto, an officer with the Avon (OH) Police Department who was injured in a traffic collision in October 2010.

The event has evolved over time, now providing assistance to other injured officers as well as funding the purchase of equipment such as body armor and first aid kits containing tourniquets and other emergency items.

In addition to the $29,000 in cash reportedly raised, agencies reportedly donated $22,000 in equipment, according to the Chronicle-Telegram.
