Death of Off-Duty Chicago Officer Investigated as Possible Suicide

Police investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an off-duty Chicago officer who was found Saturday night now believe the 47-year-old female officer died by suicide.

Police investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an off-duty Chicago officer who was found Saturday night now believe the 47-year-old female officer died by suicide.

Initial media reports that a suspect was in custody were corrected, with Chicago Police Spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi saying on Twitter on Sunday morning, "Prelim investigation reveals possible self-inflicted gunshot wound. Detectives have classified this as a death investigation as we investigate the circumstances leading up to the shooting & await confirmation & additional info from the medical examiner."

An autopsy was scheduled for Sunday.
