Citing Budgetary Concerns, Ohio Department to Disband K-9 Unit

The unit's only K-9—an 8-year-old Belgian Malinois named Coron—is reaching retirement age and the unit's vehicle requires extensive maintenance.

The Miami Township (OH) Police Department has announced its intention to disband the agency's K-9 unit in order to redirect funding and put more officers on the street.

The unit's only K-9—an 8-year-old Belgian Malinois named Coron—is reaching retirement age and the unit's vehicle requires extensive maintenance, according to the Dayton Daily News.

Coron will be sold to his longtime handler for one dollar.
