An officer with the Boston Police Department has been arrested following an incident on Christmas Eve in which his firearm discharged, wounding his wife.

According to CBS News, 32-year-old Korey Franklin was arraigned Wednesday on charges of reckless assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, and misleading an investigation.

A statement from the Suffolk County District Attorney Office said that Franklin told responding officers his wife had shot herself while she attempted to put the gun away.

"This statement was contradicted by physical aspects of the crime scene and other evidence gathered by investigators," the DA's office said in a statement.
