Separate funerals for two Chicago police officers killed earlier this week when they were struck by a commuter train will be held one day apart this weekend.

Officer Conrad Gary's memorial service was held Friday morning. Officer Eduardo Mamolejo's service will be held Saturday.

Gary had only been on the force for 18 months.  One of his fellow officers said it was an honor to serve with him, WGN reports.

Gary is survived by his wife and a 6-month-old daughter.

Officer Marmolejo is survived by his wife and three daughters.

The officers died Monday night when they were struck by a train on the city's far South Side as they were investigating a report of gunfire in the area. Investigators believe the officers had their backs turned to the train and did not hear it approaching.
