A quick thinking sergeant with the Trenton (MI) Police Department commandeered a kayak at the edge of the Detroit River after a woman was seen in a sinking vehicle in the waterway.

A spokesperson for the Trenton Police Department told WXYZ-TV that the sergeant paddled the kayak out to the sinking car and then used the paddle to break the driver's side window, allowing the woman to escape.

He then got the woman into the kayak, and paddled back to shore.
