Police across the country are stepping up traffic enforcement during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, focusing especially closely on distracted and impaired drivers.

The New York State Police announced that it will be stepping up presence on the roads during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

According to WGRZ-TV, troopers will be "very visible" on the roads and drivers can expect to encounter DUI checkpoints.

The Erie County Sheriff's Office also announced additional DWI patrols for this weekend, funded through Erie County STOP-DWI.

Maryland State Police made a similar announcement, as Lieutenant Joe George said, "We’ll definitely have extra troopers on the roads,” he said. “There’ll be pretty much a zero tolerance."

Meanwhile, the Martin County (FL) Sheriff's Office brought a television reporter from WPTV News on a ridealong, during which Corporal Jennifer City said, "A lot of people are distracted and we have a lot of impaired driving during the holiday season."
