The passenger in the vehicle that struck and killed Officer David Romrell of the South Salt Lake (UT) Police Department on Saturday night has been arrested on suspicion of homicide, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.
Officer David Romrell was responding with other officers to a burglary in progress call. When they arrived at the scene, the suspects attempted to leave in a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle accelerated toward the officers and struck Officer Romrell.
Other officers fired at the driver, identified as Felix Anthony Calata, fatally wounding him.
The passenger in the car, identified as 43-year-old Jeffery Blac, fled on foot but was later found by K-9 units to be hiding in a boat repair shop.
Black was initially released, but after reviewing evidence, police decided there was cause to issue a warrant for homicide, burglary and obstruction of justice, and other charges, according to reports.
