A Florida State Trooper pushed a bystander out of the path of an oncoming vehicle before being struck by that car at the scene of a traffic collision on Monday, according to WDSU-TV.

Trooper Mithil Patel was having a conversation with a witness on the shoulder of a freeway just north of West Palm Beach when he was hit, according to a press release from Florida Highway Patrol.

Highway workers who were clearing debris from the previous crash then ran over to help the injured trooper. Patel was transported to a nearby hospital where he is listed in serious condition.

"He pushed me out the way. If it wasn't for that, I'd be a dead man," Rony Bottex, the man saved from the crash by the trooper, told WPLG.
