A Shreveport, LA, man who was accused of attempting to run over a police officer following a robbery at a local casino a year ago has been found guilty of felony aggravated assault with a motor vehicle upon a peace officer.

According to the Shreveport Times, 24-year-old Andre Deon Bell was fleeing the scene of the robbery as officers responded. Bell swerved in the direction of the officers, nearly striking Sergeant Danny Duddy.

Duddy—now a lieutenant—jumped out of the way and fired upon the vehicle, his bullet striking Bell in the shoulder. Bell continued to flee, running a red light, striking two other cars and wrecking his getaway vehicle a few blocks away.

Bell faces imprisonment of one to 10 years with or without hard labor and a fine of up to $5,000. The state will look to use prior convictions to seek enhanced penalties.
