A new amphibious vehicle appears to be one of James Bond's toys, but the versatile craft may also offer possibilities for Border Patrol agents or officers and deputies patrolling rural localities.

The Quadski, produced by Gibbs Sports Amphibians, reaches speeds of 45 mph on land or water. Powered by a four-cylinder BMW engine, the Quadski adapts to water by retracting its wheels.

The Quadski retails for $40,000—a stiff price tag that may be a deal killer for law enforcement agencies who have been known to prefer to lease ATVs.
