Surfing the Criminal Mind

When asked why he read Cosmo, a man I respected explained that you had to know what the enemy was thinking. The following Websites may not have obvious appeal for the street cop, but you ignore them at your own peril.

There’s no shortage of Internet sites whose singular purpose is to undermine the efforts of law enforcement. Some are little more than forums where people who perceive themselves as being picked on by cops can pitch a bitch about our peers. Other sites may revolve around narcotics, show new and improved ways to commit crimes, or lay out ways for sympathizers to circumvent detection by law enforcement personnel. But by identifying where to hide their stuff, how to camouflage their habits, and alerting others to our own boneheaded mistakes, these Websites actually avail us a preemptive checklist for how to stay one step ahead of them.

Let’s take a look at some of the more anti-cop and criminally oriented sites.

Fourth Amendment Issues
Erowid.com
This site gives a pretty good outline of the legal parameters that officers operate under when it comes to search and seizure. It also gives generally good counsel on what rights property owners have when it comes to suppress motion appeals.

DUI Defenses
Sandiego-dui-lawyer.com
This is an excellent page for defense attorneys and for cops. It lays out any number of mitigating factors to explain away DUI severity as well as how to mount a viable defense motion on vulnerable DUI cases.

Dope Concealment
Grasscity.com
Hightimes.com
A collateral benefit of perusing these sites is that they offer some really amusing pothead exchanges. If you like Cheech and Chong, you’ll really enjoy reading what these idiots have to say.

Traffic Offenses
Radardetector.net
Moderated by a retired cop, this site teaches people how to get away with speeding.

Malicious Mischief
Totse.com
Catering to otherwise unimaginative adolescents and anarchists, this site offers advice on all manner of crimes, including explosives, picking locks, and how to pull off various scams.

Watching the Detectives
Freedomusa.org
This site is dedicated to providing information about undercover operations and how to avoid being arrested by undercover officers. Sample content: “The Top Ten Signs You’re Being Set up By an Undercover Cop.”

Copwatch.com
This site offers a worm’s eye view of law enforcement. Pretty much lets you know the latest spins on everything cop-wise.

Spotanarc.htm
Chompchomp.us
These last two sites offer guides on “How to Spot a Narc.” The content is solid and offers some valid pointers. This is good counter-counter-intel.
