The Manassas (VA) Police department said in a statement that the agency received information about a threat to Manassas City Schools on October 21, 2018.

A 15-year-old is in custody and now faces criminal charges after he reportedly threatened two Northern Virginia schools.

The Manassas (VA) Police department said in a statement that the agency received information about a threat to Manassas City Schools on October 21, 2018.

"Through investigation it was determined a threat was made on social media directed towards students and faculty at Osbourn High School and Baldwin Elementary School. An image of an assault rifle was also attached to the post," the department said.

Detectives then identified and arrested a 9th grade student at Osbourn High School.

"Investigators discovered the threats were NOT CREDIBLE and the suspect DID NOT have the means to carry out the threat. The photograph depicted in the threatening post was not taken by the suspect and was obtained via the internet. Investigators determined the suspect was acting alone and there were no other individuals involved in the incident," the department said.

The suspect has been charged with two felony counts of making threats to commit serious harm to persons on school property and is currently being held without bond.
