Kansas Officer Hospitalized after Collision in Vehicle Pursuit

A police officer with the Derby (KS) Police Department was transported to a hospital after a vehicle pursuit in that city on Wednesday afternoon.

According to KSNW-TV, an officer pulled over a suspect involved in a burglary, and a vehicle pursuit subsequently ensued.

The suspect crashed into a police car and then successfully carjacked a woman's car. Derby Police Chief Robert Lee said the suspect then crashed that vehicle into a second police car.

Chief Lee said an officer was taken to the hospital to be evaluated. The severity of any injuries was not immediately clear.

Authorities say the subject is in custody and the suspect will likely face charges of aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault, robbery and auto theft.
