A Mississippi dispatcher was brutally beaten last week when a man showed up at the police department and attacked her, police said.

Barbara King was on duty at the Clarksdale (MS) Police Department last week when a man—identified as Stacy Clark—arrived at the station seeking to obtain property that was left in the building, according to Fox News.

Clarksdale Police Chief Sandra Williams told WREG-TV that Clark began viciously beating King, but that the dispatcher had the strength to summon officers for help.

"She tried to get away from him by going outside," Chief Williams said.

But he pursued her and continued the attack.

King now has bleeding to her brain, a broken arm and several face fractures.

Clark has been charged with aggravated assault.
