Retired NY Trooper Dies from Exposure to Ground Zero Toxins

Retired State Police Sergeant Charles Salaway, who was assigned to New York City to work on the search and recovery effort at the World Trade Center following the 9/11 attacks, is the seventh trooper to die from a 9/11-related illness.

Retired State Police Sergeant Charles Salaway, who was assigned to New York City to work on the search and recovery effort at the World Trade Center following the 9/11 attacks, died Saturday.

Salaway, 55, is the seventh trooper to die from a 9/11-related illness, according to the Albany Times Union.

“The men and women of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office offer our condolences to all of his family and friends which include his wife Saratoga County Sheriff's Investigator Courtney Salaway and his son Saratoga County Deputy Sheriff Carson Salaway,” the sheriff's office said in a statement.
