Texas Officer Accuses PD of Having Arrest Quotas

An anonymous officer with the San Antonio Park (TX) Police Department told a local TV station that he believes the agency is unduly pressuring personnel to make arrests and issue citations.

An anonymous officer with the San Antonio Park (TX) Police Department told a local TV station that he believes the agency is unduly pressuring personnel to make arrests and issue citations.

“They’re telling me produce, or be shamed,” the officer said to WOAI-TV.

The station obtained two emails that could be potentially construed to be pressure for production, but could just as easily be seen as congratulatory of the department’s most productive personnel.

One email praised one officer for making 25 arrests and submitting 58 written reports in one month. A second email said that there are no monthly arrest requirements.

“Law enforcement for competition is just ethically wrong,” the anonymous officer said. “We assumed it was some type of quota.”

SAPD Spokesperson Michelle Ramos the emails are “congratulating the individuals that are putting in the work.”
