Milwaukee Officer Shot by Partner During Encounter With Armed Man

A Milwaukee police officer was shot in the foot by his partner when the two encountered an armed suspect at a domestic disturbance. The injured officer has been released from the hospital, a police spokesman said Friday.

The suspect, a 48-year-old man, remained hospitalized under police custody Friday morning, Sgt. Tim Gauerke said.

Police received a report of a domestic disturbance involving a "suspect armed with knives" shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday in the 600 block of S. Hawley Road, according to a police news release.

During the encounter, a 21-year-old rookie officer fired his service weapon, hitting the 48-year-old man in the leg and his 25-year-old partner in the foot, reports the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Both officers are assigned to the District 3 police station. The shooting is under investigation
