E614 is a small 100% non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation that donates NIJ Level III ballistic armor to law enforcement officers in need. The charity was co-founded by John Tompkins and Jayne McBride, who both have sons who are veteran police officers. They know that Level III armor is often not standard issue by departments, due to budget constraints, but that wearing it can save officers' lives. Oftentimes, officers cannot afford to purchase this armor themselves, and that is why those who run E614 are working tirelessly to donate it to officers, at zero cost to the officer.

The charity takes its name and inspiration from a bible verse:

"Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place."

— Ephesians 6:14

In one year of operation, E614 has donated 450 sets of this armor to officers nationwide. "We are so proud and blessed to be able to find amazing donors who have helped us to make this happen," says board member Molly McBride. But there is currently a list of around 3,600 more officers awaiting their donation of armor, with a wait time of around 10 months.

To be eligible, officers are required to submit a request form and supply proof of their employment with a U.S. law enforcement agency. To be completely fair, E614 serves officers on a first-come, first-served basis.
