Assailing former president Barack Obama’s record on guns, Trump told the crowd, “You have a true friend and champion in the White House.”

The president was received as a hero during his speech, in part for successfully installing a conservative Supreme Court justice, Neil M. Gorsuch, seen as a likely protector of gun rights, the New York Times reports.
