Washington Deputy Commits Suicide While Working Out-of-Town Case

A Pierce County, WA, sheriff's deputy took his life Friday while investigating a case in Yakima, according to Yakima County coroner Jack Hawkins.

A Pierce County, WA, sheriff's deputy took his life Friday while investigating a case in Yakima, according to Yakima County coroner Jack Hawkins.

Hawkins said Deputy Kory Shaffer, 47, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head in a room at the Hilton Garden Inn on East Yakima Avenue.

Shaffer was in town with another deputy for an undisclosed case, KOMO TV reports.
