Georgia Officer Killed in Crash On Way to Training

A Wadley, GA, police officer was killed early Monday morning in a car accident outside of Metter on his way to police certification training in Statesboro.

A Wadley, GA, police officer was killed early Monday morning in a car accident outside of Metter on his way to police certification training in Statesboro.

Lawrence Thomas Forrest, 37, of Wadley, was killed. The other driver, Alpeshkumaar Patel, 40, of Metter, was taken to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah with what authorities described as "serious injuries."

Forrest, who worked for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office before being hired by the Wadley Police Department, had been on his way to Ogeechee Technical College in Statesboro to attend mandated classes, the Statesboro Herald reports.
