The Boston Police Department issued an alert to officers this week after discovering that the personal vehicles of four officers had been tampered with, according to a police spokesman.

An off-duty officer drove into work recently, then realized the lug nuts on the wheels of his vehicle had been loosened, said Lieutenant Detective Michael McCarthy. Police were issuing the alert to ensure that officers are aware, he said.

It is unclear what specifically happened to the other officers, but McCarthy told the Boston Globe their personal vehicles were also tampered with.
