A Vineland, NJ, man was charged with attempted murder Wednesday after he allegedly stabbed a police officer in the face and head at the suspect’s home during a fight with two officers.

Both officers and the suspect, Johnny Flores, 26, of Vineland, were taken by ambulance to Inspira Medical Center Vineland, police said.

Police said the two officers accompanied the State Department of Human Services to check the well-being of a resident.

There, the officers engaged in a physical altercation with Flores, whom police eventually subdued. Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae said Flores stabbed one of the officers in the face and head.

The stabbed officer, whose name was not released, was hospitalized late Wednesday. He was released from the hospital Thursday. The second officer was treated for minor injuries and released, the Press of Atlantic City reports.
