Missouri's next governor wants to establish an emergency alert system for officers wounded or killed in the line of duty in an effort to aid the capture and arrest of the suspected perpetrator, reports KTVI.

Governor-elect Eric Greitens issued a statement Monday morning after two Missouri officers were shot Sunday: one in St. Louis and the other in a Kansas City suburb. In it, Greitens said his administration would always push for the most severe punishments for anyone who assaults a police officer.

Greitens said 27 states already have a 'Blue Alert' system, similar to AMBER and Silver alerts.
