Families of Florida police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty will be eligible for additional benefits under a bill signed into law Friday by Gov. Rick Scott, reports WESH.

The bill will give families 100% of the salary earned by those killed in the line of duty. Currently survivors are eligible for 50% of the monthly salary.

SB 7012 will benefit survivors of fallen first responders dating back to July 2013.

The bill applies to police, firefighters, correctional officers, and paramedics and others who are enrolled in the state retirement system.
