Texas Agency Hopes Bond Issue will Pay for Firearms Training Center

The Allen, TX, police department is hoping to receive a new firearms training center as the result of a bond proposal that will be decided in an upcoming election.

The Allen, TX, police department is hoping to receive a new firearms training center as the result of a bond proposal that will be decided in an upcoming election.

For the last few years, more than 100 Allen PD officers have made a two-hour round trip to Greenville for required training, the Dallas Morning News reports.

The city has never had its own center. It lost access to a McKinney range a few years ago, and other nearby ranges are full.

The $7.9 million training center is part of a $93.15 million bond package that includes a new fire station and recreation center and expansion to the Allen Public Library. On May 7, Allen voters will decide whether or not to back the plan.
