A 25-year-old Los Angeles County, CA, sheriff's deputy was killed in a crash while riding his motorcycle in Corona, police said Saturday.
According to the Corona (CA) Police Department, officers and firefighters were sent shortly before 4:30 p.m. Friday to the area of Hidden Valley, for report of a severe injury-related traffic collision. Upon their arrival, authorities learned two motorcycles and two vehicles were involved in the collision.
According to police, one of the motorcyclists — who was later identified as Upland resident Philip Borja — succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Borja was an off-duty Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy assigned to the Norwalk station, reports KCBS.
Borja's motorcycle and a Volkswagen both caught on fire as a result of the collision. The drivers of the vehicles did not sustain injuries, police said. The other motorcyclist has since been treated and released from the hospital.
The investigation is ongoing.
